Emerge Broward Receives $120,000 Grant From the Community Foundation of Broward

The funds will help further diversify nonprofit leadership in the county.

The Community Foundation of Broward has granted Emerge Broward, a prominent nonprofit for young professionals, $120,000 for its Board Engagement Program. This funding will support a three-year pilot program to provide training and support to racially diverse young professionals, enabling them to serve as nonprofit board members in Broward County.

“Young professionals are the future leaders of our community,” says Maggie Gunther, Emerge Broward’s Board President. “Through the program, our members will hone their leadership skills and strengthen Broward’s nonprofit sector by helping boards and nonprofits better mirror the diversity of the communities they serve.”

As part of this three-year pilot program, 50 young professionals from diverse backgrounds will participate in three board service training sessions facilitated by the Community Foundation of Broward. These sessions will focus on enhancing their leadership skills, understanding the financial basics of nonprofits and learning about Roberts Rules of Order. Nonprofit organizations will also have access to a larger pool of newly trained young professionals from racially diverse backgrounds, courtesy of Emerge Broward, which aims to be a catalyst for cultivating a fairer and more diverse community that is inclusive of all its residents.

“We are thrilled to support Emerge Broward’s new Board Engagement Diversity Initiative,” says Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Broward. “At the Community Foundation of Broward, we believe that fostering diverse leadership is essential for building a stronger, more inclusive community and network of nonprofit organizations. This initiative will empower young professionals from all backgrounds to contribute their unique perspectives and skills to local boards, driving positive change across Broward County.”

Broward County nonprofits can apply for Emerge Broward’s Board Engagement Program until Oct. 11. To learn more about the program, Emerge Broward will hold an informational session for nonprofit representatives on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at noon.
