Jeff Bezos’ Ex MacKenzie Scott Gives Away Millions to FIU, Broward College

As part of the $2.74 billion that McKenzie Scott is donating to 286 organizations, as announced on Tuesday, several South Florida colleges and universities are being showered with cash.

“Higher education is a proven pathway to opportunity, so we looked for 2- and 4-year institutions successfully educating students who come from communities that have been chronically underserved,” Scott said Tuesday in a blogpost for Medium.

Scott and her current husband, Dan Jewett, made $40 million donations to Florida International University in Miami and the University of Central Florida in Orlando without any restrictions on their use, school officials said. They also made a gift of $30 million to Broward College.

“What this means is that our constituency, which is largely in the 305 and the 954, can get a world-class education and have world-class opportunities right here,” said FIU President Mark Rosenberg.

“This gift is just an incredible validation of the work of our community at large, as well of course the work of those at Broward College and those students we have been able to support.,” said Broward College President Gregory Adam Haile.
