Florida is on the brink of a breakthrough in affordable housing, with four new bills aimed at strengthening the Live Local Act. These proposed updates could finally fulfill the Act’s original promise – bringing critically needed housing to high-cost areas like South Florida, where working families have been priced out. The proposed legislation would provide game-changing improvements to the Live Local Act, including allowing developers to “lock in” tax benefits earlier in the development process, prohibit cities from requiring zoning changes for qualifying projects, ban local building moratoriums that could delay affordable housing and accelerate permit reviews for affordable housing projects.
