Well-known business leaders and rising stars have been featured on SFBW’s covers during its first five years. One special cover honored the lifetime achievements of the late H. Wayne Huizenga.
January Marlene Mitchell Gordon Gordon was general counsel of Bacardi North America and her foundation, which helps impoverished residents of rural Jamaica. She joined Del Monte Fresh Produce Co. in June 2018 as senior vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief legal compliance officer.
February Mehmet Bayraktar The founder, chairman and CEO of Flagstone group was just opening the Island Gardens megayacht marina on Watson Island. More recently he won a lawsuit against the city of Miami to continue developing a hotel complex there.
March Tim Petrillo Petrillo is CEO and co-founder of The Restaurant People, which has developed, managed, and operated more than 70 restaurants since its inception. Among them are Yolo, S3, Boatyard, Spatch Grilled Peri-Peri Chicken, Rooftop @1WLO and TRP Taste.
April Jarett Levan The president of BBX Capital was making a major foray into the sweets business with Hoffman’s Chocolates and seven other brands. Since then, BBX has also acquired It’Sugar, which has more than 100 locations.
May David Long The Orangetheory CEO shared how the fitness concept had grown from one location in 2010 to 400 locations in 2016. Now, it’s up to 1,300. A key strategy is franchisees owning multiple units.
June S.R. Tommie Seminole Tribe of Florida member Tommie shared how she saved her tribal stipend to launch Redline Media Group, which has an array of blue-chip clients. She continues to lead the award-winning agency.
July Art Falcone The founder and CEO of Falcone Group had nearly $2 billion under management and projects such as the $3 billion Miami Worldcenter, where the Paramount luxury condo tower has recently opened, and the mixed-use Plantation Walk, where the first phase has opened.
August Michael Marder and Gerry Greenspoon The duo started their law firm in 1981 and as co-managing partners grew it into a top 200 U.S. firm. The firm hit $152.5 million in revenue in 2018. The firm has been a pioneer among major law firms by adding a cannabis regulatory practice.
September Dennis Cunningham Cunningham told the story of a college dropout who became chairman and CEO of Perfect Brands, the owner of ultra-premium Perfect Vodka. He is also founder, chairman and CEO of the Airtab application.
October Bob Denison The Denison Yacht Sales owner and president had built a leader in its field with 22 locations. He launched the company in 2001.
November Janna Ronert Chairman Ronert used a heavy dose of research to develop the product line for Image Skincare and turn it into a nearly-$100 million company. In January 2019, she cofounded Hush & Hush, a health, wellness and fitness company.
December Mika Mattingly Mattingly in 2016 launched the Urban Core Division for Colliers International and since 2014 has brokered 53 transactions worth $306 million targeting commercial properties in downtown Miami. She continues to play a key role in the revitalization of downtown Miami.
