Pace Center for Girls Broward Hosts Inspiring Luncheon Focused On Empowering Young Women

The Pace Center for Girls Broward recently hosted its Believing in Girls Empowerment Luncheon Fundraiser at the Signature Grand in Davie. The event was emceed by Laurie Jennings for the second year and was attended by 400 members of the Broward community, including elected officials, sponsors, contributors and special guests. Together, they raised $179,000 in critical funds needed for Pace Girls. The Amaturo Family Foundation returned as presenting sponsor and was joined by Champion Sponsors Rick Case Automotive Group, Rosemary Duffy Larson Trust and UKG- Ultimate Kronos Group, as well as Advocate Sponsors Castle Group, Circle of Friends Foundation, Perlman Family Foundation, Memorial Healthcare System, and Publix Super Markets Charities.

“This was a day of celebration of all the incredible talents, strengths and accomplishments of Pace girls. Despite their challenges, they are strong and resilient and focused on successful futures,” Sara Nuñez says, Executive Director of Pace.

This annual luncheon showcases the diverse background, talents and successes of Pace Girls. It honors their female spirit as they act with integrity and positive intent to express their gratitude to all who make their incredible achievements possible, especially themselves.

“With Pace, our girls have a community of support with program services to achieve the success and happiness they deserve,’ Lois Marino says, Executive Director of BBX Capital Foundation. “I am truly honored to be a Board Member and proud to be Pacesetter.” 

Denise and Angelo Elia, owners of Casa D’Angelo, were awarded the Leo Goodwin Community Cares Award, the highest honor bestowed by Pace Center for Girls Broward. Their unwavering support for the center is evident through the annual A Taste of Italy Dinner and Wine Auction they host at their restaurant. Over the last two decades, their generosity has helped raise over 1.3 million dollars, providing much-needed funds for the girls at the center.

Pace Center for Girls has been serving the Broward Community for 31 years, helping over 10,000 girls and their families. They invest in more than 400 girls annually through their Academic Day and Reach Counseling Programs. The Day Program offers academics, social services, counseling, and life-skills training to girls ages 11 to 17, while the Reach Program provides social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health counseling. Pace is a safe haven for girls to learn, process, heal, and start anew. Their annual “A Taste of Italy Dinner and Wine Auction” has raised over $1.3 million in the last two decades, providing much-needed funds for the girls at Pace. BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico. His other clients have included Four Seasons, Acqualina Resort & Residences, Yahoo!, American Airlines, Wynn, Douglas Elliman and Corcoran. As an adjunct assistant professor, Limsky has taught journalism, film and creative writing at the City University of New York, Pace University, American University and other colleges.
