Luxury Residential Projects in South Florida Add Intriguing Amenity: Padel Courts

Padel is closely related to squash, with an enclosed court surrounded by a ‘superstructure’ on four sides.

Padel has established itself as the dominant court sport in Europe, and it has now crossed over to the U.S., with clubs popping up from Miami to New York. The demand for memberships is high and waitlists can stretch for several weeks. While club memberships are highly sought, private community facilities are even more exclusive. However, some luxury residential developments now offer world-class padel courts for their owners, including in South Florida.

Nestled in the heart of North Miami’s $4 billion, 184-acre master-planned SoLé Mia community is ONE Park Tower by Turnberry. This luxurious tower boasts 299 unique residences, each with stunning views of the seven-acre Crystal Lagoon amenity, pristine natural landscapes, private beach access and breathtaking ocean views. The state-of-the-art amenities are inspired by resort living and focus on wellness, including 37 acres of active and passive green space with 8 miles of biking and running trails, private swimming pools, pickleball courts, and a wellness center with fitness facilities, spa rooms, and massage services.

The master-planned community developed by LeFrak and Turnberry has recently announced a new amenity, a partnership with Reserve, to create the brand’s first permanent club. The Reserve Padel at SoLé Mia’s two-story club is set to span 100,000 square feet, featuring four indoor and six outdoor padel courts, elevated viewing areas, and social spaces. Additionally, the venue will house a state-of-the-art gym and wellness center on the second floor, complete with a steam room, sauna, and cold plunge. On-site dining will be provided by South Florida’s Pura Vida, offering healthy food and organic juice options from an expansive terrace overlooking the central court.

Residents of SoLé Mia, including ONE Park Tower by Turnberry owners, are given access to an exceptional facility, which will also be open to the public with an exclusive membership component. Membership perks include priority court bookings, special event access, and second-floor health & wellness facility use. The club will host special tournaments, exhibitions, events, all-level clinics, curated kid’s programs, and corporate outings.

The Wellington Equestrian & Golf Club – Wellington

The Wellington Equestrian & Golf Club is a luxurious 600-acre private residential resort community that showcases the finest aspects of South Florida living and the region’s thriving equestrian culture. The development boasts a team of star-studded developers, including Wellington Lifestyle Partners, led by Mark Bellissimo, and NEXUS Luxury Collection, founded by Joe Lewis and his Tavistock Group. The group also includes golf legends Tiger Woods and Ernie Els and musician and actor Justin Timberlake, who together created the stunning Albany development in the Bahamas.

The all-encompassing amenities include a world-class racquet center complete with a pro shop, 10 padel courts, a stadium tennis court, 12 additional tennis courts, and 12 pickleball courts. Additionally, a two-story, 120,000-square-foot Field House offers two more padel courts, two tennis courts, four pickleball courts, and four squash courts. A full basketball court, five sports simulators, a purveyors market and smoothie bar, and a 40,000-square-foot fitness center with lavish training, recovery facilities, and treatments.

Additional amenities include Cypress Golf Course, an 18-hole championship course designed by Pete Dye that is undergoing extensive renovations. A 16-acre Central Park also features a lake, exercise and relaxation trails, yoga gardens, and outdoor event spaces. For children, indoor and outdoor facilities are available, including sports and gaming rooms, a rock-climbing wall, regulation bowling lanes, arts and crafts areas, and two outdoor sports fields.

BIOGRAPHY

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico. His other clients have included Four Seasons, Acqualina Resort & Residences, Yahoo!, American Airlines, Wynn, Douglas Elliman and Corcoran.
