Gencom Announces Leadership Appointments

Miami-based real estate investment firm Gencom is reorganizing its operations and expanding its leadership team as it prepares for its next stage of global growth.

The company announced it has divided its operations into two business lines — Gencom Capital and Gencom Real Estate — separating its investment activities from the development, construction and asset management of its properties.

Founder and CEO Karim Alibhai will continue to oversee both divisions and lead the firm’s overall strategy.

The restructuring comes as Gencom’s portfolio has grown to nearly $8 billion in assets under management. Founded more than 40 years ago, the company currently owns 24 properties that are operating or under development, representing more than 6,000 hotel rooms worldwide.

“Successful real estate platforms are built by combining disciplined investing with exceptional execution,” Alibhai said. “As Gencom continues to grow, this evolution strengthens our leadership, sharpens accountability, and positions us to capitalize on the opportunities ahead.”

Gencom Capital will be led by Chief Investment Officer Alessandro Colantonio and oversee acquisitions, investment strategy, capital formation and allocation, capital markets, portfolio management and investor relations.

The company also promoted Ignasi Puig to managing director of acquisitions and investments, Peter Trujillo to managing director of corporate investments and Blythe Pierre-Louis to managing director of special situations.

On the real estate side, Donald McGregor has been promoted to president of Gencom Real Estate. He will oversee development, construction and asset management across the company’s portfolio.

Shaun Johnston was promoted to head of portfolio finance and accounting for Gencom Real Estate, while Jake Lynch has joined the company as senior vice president of asset management. Lynch brings more than 15 years of hospitality investment, asset management and operational experience.

Gencom specializes in luxury hotels, resorts and branded residential developments. Its properties operate in partnership with hospitality brands including The Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood, Auberge Resorts Collection, Fairmont, Hyatt and Marriott.

The company also has interests in Pyramid Global Hospitality, which manages 185 properties totaling approximately 50,000 rooms in the U.S. and Europe, and Convene, which operates more than 2 million square feet of meeting, event and flexible office space.
