Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale Partners With SFBW for a Special CEO Connect

Our July cover star, Pipeline Workspaces CEO Philippe Houdard, offers compelling remarks about building community—and watching creative types from Spotify, Google, Uber and Microsoft waft through the coworking space he co-founded.

It was a full house at Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale last night, as SFBW held a CEO Connect/cover launch party featuring the co-founder and CEO of Pipeline Workspaces, Philippe Houdard. Guests were more than happy to sign up for test drives in the gleaming sports vehicles before Managing Director Kim Sarni assumed hosting duties, inviting the event’s sponsors from Truist, Transworld and Future Tech to give brief remarks.

Then Editor-in-Chief Drew Limsky took the stage to engage Houdard in a range of timely topics—from the practicalities and logistics of working in a design-forward shared space; to fostering a culture of belonging and connecting through co-working; to the ways in which Houdard’s strong sense of community was nurtured in the small French village where he was raised.

Of Pipeline’s seven locations, it is striking that four occupy strategic and dynamic locales in South Florida: Brickell (the flagship venue), Doral, Coral Gables and Fort Lauderdale. (The others are located in Tampa, Orlando and Philadelphia.) That’s a point of differentiation. “We can talk about the Soho Houses and the WeWorks and their global footprints, but Houdard lives here, in Brickell Key,” Limsky noted. “He’s in the community and he has a stake in the community.”

Houdard, who was educated at the University of Florida before heading to grad school at Harvard, warmed to the homecoming theme: “We’re a for-profit company and we have investors that we have to try to do something for,” Houdard said, “but there is also a sentiment of really trying to contribute to the community, help startup companies grow and be successful and help existing companies to grow their businesses as well. And for us, it’s nice to do something for the community and providing our services is what we do.”

If Houdard has notched more than a few wins as a serial entrepreneur (he was the founder and CEO of SkyBank Financial), his devotion to Pipeline represents a long-lasting devotion: He’s been at the helm for nearly 12 years.

Drew Limsky joined Lifestyle Media Group in August 2020 as Editor-in-Chief of South Florida Business & Wealth. His first issue of SFBW, October 2020, heralded a reimagined structure, with new content categories and a slew of fresh visual themes. “As sort of a cross between Forbes and Robb Report, with a dash of GQ and Vogue,” Limsky says, “SFBW reflects South Florida’s increasingly sophisticated and dynamic business and cultural landscape.”

Limsky, an avid traveler, swimmer and film buff who holds a law degree and Ph.D. from New York University, likes to say, “I’m a doctor, but I can’t operate—except on your brand.” He wrote his dissertation on the nonfiction work of Joan Didion. Prior to that, Limsky received his B.A. in English, summa cum laude, from Emory University and earned his M.A. in literature at American University in connection with a Masters Scholar Award fellowship.

Limsky came to SFBW at the apex of a storied career in journalism and publishing that includes six previous lead editorial roles, including for some of the world’s best-known brands. He served as global editor-in-chief of Lexus magazine, founding editor-in-chief of custom lifestyle magazines for Cadillac and Holland America Line, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Modern Luxury Interiors South Florida. He also was the executive editor for B2B magazines for Acura and Honda Financial Services, and he served as travel editor for Conde Nast. Magazines under Limsky’s editorship have garnered more than 75 industry awards.

He has also written for many of the country’s top newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, USA Today, Worth, Robb Report, Afar, Time Out New York, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Ritz-Carlton, Elite Traveler, Florida Design, Metropolis and Architectural Digest Mexico.
