Modernizing Medicine has consolidated 800 employees from three locations into one cutting-edge workspace that reflects the technology company’s brand and culture. The location is the 1.7-million-square foot Boca Raton Innovation Campus, former home to IBM’s personal computer operations. “The original building was designed by Modernist architect Marcel Breuer in a Y-shaped floor plate, with column-free space that lends itself to an open plan with lots of natural light. Our design took into account all aspects of workplace performance, including how to reduce travel distance from one end to the other while connecting the workforce with beverage bars and brand touchpoints,” says Diana Farmer-Gonzalez, principal at Gensler Design, which worked on the project with DPR Construction and real estate company JLL. Each wing of the space features self-sustaining neighborhoods with large canteens for collaboration and a mix of spaces that facilitate focus work, informal meetings and brainstorming.
