South Florida Business Collaborates With YMCA to Host Community Event for Suicide Prevention Awareness in September

The month honors National Suicide Prevention Month.

Ms. Esquire and the YMCA of South Florida will be organizing a meaningful community event to raise awareness about suicide prevention at 6 p.m. on Sept. 4. The event seeks to encourage open conversations about available support resources, offer hope to those impacted, and commemorate the lives lost to suicide. It will showcase speakers, including Charles Coleman, Co-founder of SafeBAE, Dr. Steven Kessler, Co-founder of NeuroHealth and a Memorial Health Behavioral Specialist. Their insights and experiences will shape a compassionate and impactful dialogue, aiming to inspire attendees to illuminate and raise awareness about this sensitive topic.

“Our intention is to provide hope and resources to our community, bring awareness and have a candid honest conversation on Suicide prevention,” says Rahysa Vargas, Founder and president of Ms. Esquire.

The event sponsors include Memorial Healthcare System, which serves as the Title Sponsor; NeuroHealth and Recovery Unplugged, which are Mental Health Ambassadors; GIA Healthcare, which is a Mental Health Supporter; 211 Broward, which is a Mental Health Advocate; and the Dylan Schopp Sunshine Foundation, which is a Mental Health Advocate.

Guests will be able to engage with vendors such as NAMI, 211 Broward, Florida Lawyers Assistance, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Hanley Foundation, Wondherful Boxes, and Annie’s Choice. These organizations will offer valuable information and resources to support individuals affected by suicide and provide insights for those seeking to learn more about how they can offer assistance.

“We want to prevent other families from ever experiencing this type of heartbreaking loss,” says Trisha Widowfield, Vice President of Ms. Esquire.

The partnership between Ms. Esquire and the YMCA of South Florida aims to create a community where mental health is prioritized and supported. To register for the event, please visit here.
