Feeding Hope

United Way Broward and The Jim Moran Foundation Join Forces to Fight Hunger

In a time when rising costs and economic uncertainty continue to strain families across South Florida, a powerful partnership is helping to keep food on the table—and dignity intact—for thousands in need.

United Way Broward has received a $300,000 grant from The Jim Moran Foundation to support Project Lifeline, a hunger-relief initiative that distributes fresh and shelf-stable foods to local food banks throughout the county. The funding comes at a critical moment for the region, where food insecurity continues to impact more than half a million people each year.

“We are deeply honored and grateful for this incredible support,” said Kathleen Cannon, President and CEO of United Way Broward. “This partnership strengthens our capacity to deliver high-impact services and respond to the urgent needs of our neighbors. Together, we are changing lives.”

The Jim Moran Foundation is no stranger to this cause. A longtime supporter of Project Lifeline, the Foundation has contributed more than $3 million since the program launched in 2009. Over the years, its investment has helped United Way Broward distribute more than 1 million pounds of healthy food annually across the county—a staggering number that underscores both the scale of the need and the scale of their impact.

But Project Lifeline is about more than just calories—it’s about compassion. In addition to supplying nutritious groceries, the program includes recipe cards to help families make the most of their ingredients, turning donated staples into warm, home-cooked meals. It’s a small but thoughtful touch that reflects the core of the initiative: to nourish both body and spirit.

For The Jim Moran Foundation, this latest grant reinforces a decades-long mission of strengthening families and communities across Florida. With more than $290 million invested in education, elder care, and family support programs, the Foundation continues to shape a legacy of giving that began with its founder, automotive pioneer Jim Moran.

“This is what lasting change looks like,” said Cannon. “It’s what happens when organizations come together with a shared vision of equity, access, and opportunity.”

In a region as diverse and dynamic as Broward County, the challenges are complex—but so are the solutions. Through partnerships like this, United Way Broward is working toward a future where no family has to choose between rent and groceries, and where every community member can thrive.
