A Study in Light: Brandon Amira Redefines Light in Modern Design

In an era where lighting is often treated as an accessory, Brandon Amira approaches it as architecture. Miami-based kinetic artist and designer Brandon Amira continues to expand his exploration of light as a primary medium through a body of work that moves fluidly between interior and exterior environments. Spanning scales from architectural installations to human-scaled objects, his work is rooted in a minimalist and architectural language where light is revealed from within, creating a refined spatial presence at the intersection of art, design, and structure.

Drawing from a background in general construction and engineering, Amira has spent the last decade developing innovative residential and commercial works that are both visually striking and engineered with longevity in mind. Working primarily in metal, he uses structure as both framework and vessel, allowing light to exist as an integral part of the form rather than an applied element. His approach is defined by precision, restraint, and a belief that light is not applied to a form, but revealed from within.

This philosophy is evident across a range of works, from large-scale exterior installations to more intimate interior pieces. His Middle River™ illuminating gate sculpture exemplifies this vision at an architectural scale. Designed with clean, linear geometry and integrated lighting, the electronic sliding gate emits a controlled, continuous glow, blending functionality with a sculptural presence that elevates the entry experience. By day, the piece reads as a precise architectural form, and by night, it illuminates from within, transforming into an immersive light sculpture. The project reflects Amira’s ability to merge luxury, outdoor living, and advanced lighting technology into a singular architectural statement.

Indoors, Amira translates this same language into refined, human-scaled works. LUMA, a free-standing sculptural light, embodies a quiet and continuous illumination that enhances its surroundings without overwhelming them. Defined by its minimalist proportions and concealed lighting system, the piece offers a subtle atmospheric presence, shifting in perception as it is experienced from different angles. Each piece is custom crafted, reflecting a balance of technical precision and artistic intent, and designed to integrate seamlessly within curated, design-driven interiors.

Expanding further into the public realm, Infinity Opus represents Amira’s work in its most expressive sculptural form. The monumental, illuminated sculpture is currently on display at Miami International Fine Arts as part of the “Sculpture Walk 2025–2026: Temporary Outdoor Exhibition,” on view to the public through June 30, 2026, at 5900 NW 74th Avenue, Miami, Florida. Installed within an open-air landscape, Infinity Opus is a continuous looping metal structure that evokes a sense of eternity. Constructed with precise geometry and embedded illumination, it creates a unified interplay between light and form, where structure and illumination operate as one.

As part of Amira’s ongoing Parallel Series, these works reflect a consistent exploration of light as both medium and structure. Across each piece, his patented integrated lighting system remains central to his practice. “My integrated, patented lighting system is embedded within the structure and hidden from view,” Amira said. “With depth and illumination working together, each piece reveals new dimensions depending on how it is experienced.”

Whether shaping an entry sequence, enhancing an interior environment, or activating a public landscape, Amira’s work reflects a cohesive vision. His designs do not simply occupy space, they define it, revealing new dimensions as they are experienced from different perspectives. As his work continues to expand across private residences, public installations, and architectural collaborations, Amira is establishing a distinct language of light within contemporary design. In Amira’s work, light is not simply seen, it is experienced, shaping how space is understood both within and without.
