Plans for Turnberry Ocean Club show one of the most architecturally distinctive luxury condos ever to be built in Sunny Isles. Slated for completion in 2018, the 54-story building is a collaboration between Turnberry Associates and internationally acclaimed design architect Carlos Zapata.
The oceanfront project at 18501 Collins Avenue will offer 154 three-, four-, five-, and six-bedroom units starting at $4 million. Amenities include direct oceanfront and bay views, membership privileges at Turnberry Isle Resort & Country Club, beach service, three lounge areas, three private dining areas, 31 ocean view cabanas, three swimming pools, a multi-lingual concierge, 24/7 valet and security.
Turnberry Ocean Club’s dramatic porte cochere, a large-scale arched-covered entrance, will open into the expansive three-level glass-window lobby with direct views of the ocean. Beyond, the resort-like lifestyle is highlighted with a view of its lobby infinity-edge pool, cabanas and immediate access to the beach.
“My goal was to design a building that would be visually identifiable,” Zapata says. “The most important consideration was the sequence of events that residents will experience when they arrive from the protected entrance under a generous porte cochere connecting the building to the landscape, to the water sequence and the Sky Club.”
Zapata, along with Turnberry Associates” Jeffrey Soffer planned the building’s $100 million Sky Club to be a distinctive private club located within the 30th through the 32nd floors of the modern blue glass structure with ultra-luxurious amenities and a one-of-a-kind space for residents to enjoy.
“We wanted residents to feel like members of an exclusive club, not only through the five-star amenities and service, but also though the architecture,” Soffer says.
As an oceanfront building, the Turnberry Ocean Club will carry a water theme throughout, with a generous fountain at the street level entrance, two additional bodies of water at the top of the hill entrance to the building, and another as visitors enter the lobby. The infinity-edge pool continues the water sequence as it visually connects to the ocean.
The Sky Club, 300 feet above sea level, boasts 360-degree views throughout the high-ceiling amenity-focus space.
“Particularly in a tropical location, it was very important for me to provide a space within the high-rise which has a very powerful outdoor experience,” Zapata explains. “The most stunning aspects of the club are the two cantilevered pools that reach out towards the ocean and towards the bay.”
Although headquartered in New York City, Zapata’s South Florida designs include the Miami International Airport Concourse J and the chic Miami Beach Publix by the Bay supermarket. His projects have received prestigious awards, including National and local American Institute or Architects awards; International Awards at Bienale XII and XIV. ?
