The Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the City of Fort Lauderdale have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly begin planning efforts to create a downtown park at the former One Stop Shop site, a 3.2-acre parcel at 301 N. Andrews Avenue.
The initiative represents a significant opportunity to reimagine a strategically positioned downtown property as a vibrant public space. As the urban core of Fort Lauderdale continues to experience sustained residential growth and ongoing public and private investment, the project aims to respond to increasing demand for high-quality public spaces that elevate the urban experience.
“The vision for the One Stop Shop site is to create a public space that serves as a meaningful asset for the people of Downtown and all of Fort Lauderdale,” said Jenni Morejon, President and CEO of the Fort Lauderdale DDA. “As our city continues growing and evolving, it is important that we continue investing in shared spaces that bring residents, workers, and visitors together in meaningful ways. We believe this site has the potential to become a defining destination that enhances the everyday experience of Downtown Fort Lauderdale for years to come.”
The momentum for this effort comes as Flagler Village continues to evolve, with new residential, commercial, and mixed-use development reshaping one of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods. Located near Brightline, FAT Village, and several planned redevelopment projects, the former One Stop Shop site is uniquely positioned to become a central gathering place within Fort Lauderdale’s urban core.
As part of the partnership, the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority will lead the development of early design concepts and a public engagement process to gather community input on future programming, amenities, and the overall vision for the site.
“As Downtown Fort Lauderdale continues to grow, it is critical that our public spaces evolve with it,” said Dean Trantalis, Mayor of the City of Fort Lauderdale. “Building on the DDA’s success with Huizenga Park, the One Stop Shop site represents another important opportunity to strengthen our network of urban parks in the city.”
“This is an important milestone towards realizing a long-term vision for the former One Stop Shop site as a downtown park,” said Fort Lauderdale District 2 Commissioner Steve Glassman. “The DDA has played a critical leadership role in bringing the transformation of Huizenga Park from vision to reality. As we continue working together, this effort reflects the kind of thoughtful partnership that strengthens downtown and delivers lasting impact for Fort Lauderdale residents.
“This marks an exciting first step toward meaningful progress for the One Stop site and its future as a park,” said Phillip Dunlap, President of the Flagler Village Civic Association. “The Flagler Village neighborhood is eager to see this underutilized site transformed into a vibrant public space that supports community life and reflects the continued evolution of Downtown Fort Lauderdale.”
