Jobs, jobs, jobs are coming, says the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance

Newly created jobs are coming to Broward County, thanks to the efforts and capital raised by company partnerships with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. The county’s public-private partnership for economic development held its mid-year luncheon at the Pier Sixty-Six Resort and Marina in Fort Lauderdale and announced that more than $28 million in capital investment made since this fiscal year will create 462 new jobs and 1,190 will be retained.

The news was reported by Bob Swindell, CEO and president of the Alliance, and Chair Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, vice president of advancement and community relations for Nova Southeastern University. Here’s a breakdown of where the new jobs are:

  • AutoNation, which is adding 95 new jobs, and recently renewed and expanded its headquarters lease agreement with Stiles Corporation for 12 years plus an eight-year option.
  • ERP Maestro, a cloud-based cybersecurity firm, which is adding 100 jobs at its new offices in Plantation. The company recently secured a $12 million investment round.
  • Lupin Research Inc., a pharmaceutical research and development company in Coral Springs, is adding 20 new jobs and investing $2.9 million for pilot manufacturing of inhalation pharmaceuticals for treating asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
  • Evolution Aero, an aviation manufacturing company which made a capital investment in Fort Lauderdale of $4 million and added seven new jobs.
  • Crawford-Tracey Corporation, a headquarters and manufacturer of glazed impact and non-impact, shatter-resistant windows and doors, is adding 30 new jobs, retaining 100 jobs and making a capital investment of $1.3 million in Deerfield Beach.
  • Lupin Research Inc., a pharmaceutical research and development company in Coral Springs, is adding 20 new jobs and investing $2.9 million for pilot manufacturing of inhalation pharmaceuticals for treating asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
  • MediaGenix, a Belgian developer of the broadcast management platform, WHATS’ON, for video-on-demand services, made a foreign direct investment of $200,000 and established its first U.S. office, with five new jobs in Fort Lauderdale

“Today’s announcements, low current unemployment rate of 3.5 percent, and year-over-year private sector job growth of 9,300 is confirmation that our economy is steadily growing,” said Swindell. “The Alliance is hard at work year-round telling the story of Greater Fort Lauderdale as a premier business destination and talent hub and companies continue to recognize the strength of our workforce and highly competitive business climate.”

Related story: The meeting also included an announcement of an effort to combat the plight of the homeless in Broward County.
