Kim Ng and Miami Marlins Part Ways

Ng was Major League Baseball’s highest-ranking woman in baseball operations.

After three historic seasons serving as the first woman General Manager in the four major North American professional sports leagues, Kim Ng will not return to the Miami Marlins for the 2024 season.

“We thank Kim for her contribution during her time with our organization and wish her and her family well,” Marlins Principal Owner Bruce Sherman says in a club-released statement. “We will immediately begin a thorough and extensive search for new leadership as we plan to continue to invest in the Marlins organization both on and off the field.”

Sherman revealed that the organization had exercised its team option for Ng to return for the 2024 season. However, according to the Marlins, Ng declined her mutual option, so she will not be returning to the Marlins. Ng made significant contributions during her three-year tenure with the organization, including making the 2023 postseason.

After her historic hiring in 2020, Ng spoke with Lifestyle Media Group about the gender implications of her hiring and the responsibility that comes with it.

“I try to be proactive in helping others, particularly women in the workplace,” she says, “whether it’s giving advice, mentorships, providing camaraderie or letting others know they aren’t the only ones out there dealing with difficult situations in terms of being a woman or someone of color.”
